At Carrara Family Practice, we understand that your heart health sits at the centre of your overall wellbeing. That is why we are proud to offer a dedicated Cardiology Clinic in Carrara, giving Gold Coast patients direct access to specialist cardiac care in a familiar, welcoming community setting, without the need to travel far from home.
Our Cardiology Clinic is led by Dr Shahid Hafeez, a highly qualified Consultant Cardiologist with more than 10 years of clinical experience across leading teaching hospitals in Adelaide and Brisbane. Dr Hafeez holds an exceptional suite of internationally recognised credentials (including Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), Fellowship of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (FCSANZ), Fellowship of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC), and Fellowship of the American College of Cardiology (FACC)) and brings advanced specialist expertise in echocardiography and CT coronary angiography (CTCA) to our practice.
Working in close collaboration with our experienced GP team, Dr Hafeez delivers evidence-based, patient-focused care for a wide range of heart conditions, with a strong emphasis on prevention, early detection, and long-term cardiac health.
Through longer, focused consultations, Dr Hafeez takes the time to thoroughly review each patient’s cardiac symptoms, medical history, lifestyle, family history, and relevant investigations. This comprehensive approach allows him to develop personalised cardiac care plans that address the full picture of a patient’s heart health, rather than just an isolated symptom. Care may include detailed cardiovascular risk assessment, medication review, investigation referrals (such as echocardiography, Holter monitoring, exercise stress testing, or CTCA), and coordinated follow-up with both our GP team and relevant hospital or specialist services where needed.
Our Cardiology Clinic provides assessment and ongoing management support for a broad range of heart and cardiovascular conditions, including coronary artery disease, heart failure, heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmia), atrial fibrillation, hypertension (high blood pressure), high cholesterol (dyslipidaemia), valvular heart disease, and cardiac changes associated with conditions such as Type 2 diabetes and obesity. Dr Hafeez also provides post-cardiac event follow-up for patients recovering after a heart attack, cardiac procedure, or cardiac hospitalisation, as well as pre-operative cardiac assessments for those preparing for elective surgery.
For patients presenting with symptoms such as chest pain or tightness, shortness of breath on exertion, palpitations, irregular heartbeat, unexplained dizziness or fainting, or persistent leg swelling, a structured cardiology assessment helps to clarify the underlying cause and ensure the most appropriate care pathway is followed. Investigations and referrals are coordinated efficiently through our practice, with clear communication at every step.
If you are experiencing severe chest pain, difficulty breathing, or symptoms of a possible cardiac emergency, please call 000 immediately or attend your nearest Emergency Department. Do not wait for a clinic appointment.
A central focus of our Cardiology Clinic is preventive cardiology, supporting patients in understanding and actively managing the risk factors that contribute to heart disease before conditions develop or progress. Dr Hafeez works closely with patients to address modifiable cardiovascular risk factors, including elevated cholesterol, high blood pressure, physical inactivity, smoking, excess weight, and poorly controlled diabetes, providing evidence-based guidance that empowers lasting, sustainable change.
Ongoing review appointments allow Dr Hafeez and our GP team to monitor progress, review investigations, adjust treatment plans as needed, and keep patients informed and engaged throughout their cardiac care journey. Our integrated clinic model means your cardiologist and GP work together seamlessly, ensuring continuity of care and a whole-person approach to your long-term heart health. Our goal is to support each patient in achieving the best possible cardiac outcomes and quality of life through proactive, personalised, and compassionate care.
